Research and sketches

Project description
For this Project I decided to work on my concept  work. to do this I will look into different artist. To start of I i will research character anatomy  and line art, after this I will look into shading and colour, then finally finish with painting the characters. Male characters, hands and painting are my weakest areas, therefore i will look at them more then female characters. for the final hand in I will have created a book with rough sketches research Referenced images and an A3 image off four characters one female and three male.
Reference books
For the research I looked at different book each book is listed below with links to show where I bought them. Each book as a different style and a different way of drawing characters. This will help define my own style of drawing characters and make my work sand out from others.
"Loomis Andrew, [1973]  Titan  Books"
The first book that I looked at was 'Figure Drawing for All its Worth By Andrew Loomis'. This book was recommended by my art tutor, the book looks at the human figure and breaks it down into different parts, for example the head, hands and feet will be placed into different categories. the book also looks at different poses and anatomy of male and female characters.

"Fleaming Tom, [2009] Impact"

The book show to the right is a  based on drawing fantasy females. This book isn't good for those who want to lean to draw male characters, however this book is great for fantasy lovers and learning to draw female characters.

Fabry Glenn, Cormack Ben [2005]
David and Charles Publishing
This book interested me as it helped with positions and anatomy of both male and female characters. The book establishes This by using photos of a man and a woman in different poses. the book shows a variety of different characters in different poses and expressions.

Hamm Jack, [1983]
The Berkley Publishing Group
This book is old however it is helpful when looking anatomy and proportion. The book looks at how to draw different parts of the body individually. This book is good for people who are beginners or for people who just look old style cartoon characters.

This book is good for those who like comics, however although I like the comic style I don't like the way the male characters are design with in the book. the book looks at each part of the body like the other books however this looks at the proportion and anatomy for comic characters raver then realistic anatomy.

Rough Sketches
To start of this project I looked at the head and face, breaking them down into separate areas. first I looked at different ways on how to draw the eyes. Looking in the books shown above and at a tutorial on the Internet. after this i moved on to looking at the nose mouth and other facial features.

The images of the eyes shown in this area of the blog are drawn by myself. To draw the images I followed the tutorials shown in the referenced books, and one from a website I found when researching this area of the face.

I Draw the eyes shown to the right a couple of times, so that I learnt how to draw it. Doing this help to keep the skill of drawing the eye stuck into my head. To tutorial shown in the book used, explained and demonstrated how to build up the eye from a basic shape such as a circle.

The image above demonstrates how to draw an eye from a basic shape to a fully designed eye. This tutorial is good to follow and easy to understand, there isn't much text to read so It is ideal for people like me who are dyslexic.
